Project Netwatch (Section 6 of the Grid Overwatch Division) was formed by a joint consortium of Corporations including Saeder-Krupp (owning and operating most of the European LTGs), Pacific Rim Communications Unlimited (running the Seattle, Pacific Regional, and Sydney RTGs), Renraku Computer Systems (Japan, Cal Free, and San Fransico RGGs), Aztechnology (possessing exclusive rights to running the newly-integrated Denver RTG), Ares Macrotechnology (Detroit LTG and most of the CommSat RTGs, including the StarFire CommSat constellation), the Pueblo Corporate Council (NaN RTGs), Cross Applied Technologies (providing a variety of LTGs for corporations), Novatech Incorporated (one of the premier software companies), Neurotech Computing (programmers of expert systems and smart frames), and Cyberdynamix (another producer of high-end agent software).

As a top secret, high-level extention of the Grid Overwatch Division, they report directly to the Corporate Court Matrix Authority's Vice President of Operations, codenamed as simply 'Section Six'. Their mission is to hunt down and destroy rogue or malevolent AIs. They are also licensed to attempt to track down the origin of the code and report their findings to the Ops VP, who may submit it to the Corporate Council for review of fines.

Section 6 was formed in Feburary 2061 after it was determined that no less than five AIs had escaped from the corporations controlling them, four of which proceeded to cause billions of yen in damages to a number of class AAA corporations, including the all-too-public incident of the Renraku Arcology being taken over by Deus, with one hundred thousand people trapped inside.

One of the logistics problems that Section 6 works under is that none of its information can be provided over the Matrix. If it were, any rogue AI's first act would be its destruction. Neither the data of its members or even its headquarter's location can be given out online. Because of these requirements, the Corporate Council has been authorized to issue special 'Section 6' SINs that offer both identification and anominimity. These SINs identify the bearer as a member of Section 6 with biometric verification built into the stick. They contain no identifying information on the SIN database itself, only a list of authorized security and an LTG number for contact if you suspect a fake that links to their offices. They are required by corporate mandate to maintain a hard copy of all information normally stored on a SIN and to provide it upon request.
